Dr. Andrea Obi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan. She holds degrees in Microbiology and Immunology as well as English Literature from the University of Michigan, and an M.D. from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. She completed general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship in the Department of Surgery at The University of Michigan, during which time she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Vascular Biology in the Conrad Jobst Vascular Laboratories. Dr. Obi’s laboratory focuses on dissecting molecular mechanisms involved in venous thrombus (VT) resolution. Major ongoing efforts include: evaluating myeloid signaling in venous fibrinolysis and development of rodent and large animal models for venous device testing. Dr. Obi co-chairs the University of Michigan VTE committee, focused on prevention of hospital acquired VTE. She co-leads the multidisciplinary venous health program at the U-M Cardiovascular Center, to treat patients with chronic, complex venous disease. Among other distinctions she received the 2019 Vascular Cures Wylie Scholar Award and the 2018 Jobst Award from the American Venous Forum.
