While maintaining a broad-based vascular surgical practice, Dr. Geraghty’s primary clinical and research focus has been the development and validation of new techniques to treat atherosclerotic and aneurysmal disease of the lower extremities, with a secondary focus on hemodialysis access creation and maintenance. He has served as national and/or global principal investigator of the VIBRANT trial, Lutonix Below The Knee study of paclitaxel-coated balloons, the Intact Vascular TOBA II Below The Knee trial of angioplasty salvage, and the Boston Scientific SAVAL trial. In conjunction with his WUSM colleagues, Dr. Geraghty has established the first multidisciplinary Limb Preservation Program in the St. Louis region.
Dr. Geraghty has held multiple leadership roles in regional and national societies. He is a past president of the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society. Nationally, he has served as chair of the Society for Vascular Surgery Technology Assessment Committee, member of the SVS Lower Extremity Practice Guidelines Writing Group, Global Vascular Guidelines Writing Group, & Popliteal Aneurysm Guidelines Writing Group. He has provided advisory service to the FDA through the Peripheral Academic Research Consortium (PARC) and SVS Critical Limb Ischemia Work Group. He co-founded the SVS Complex Peripheral Intervention Skills Course and serves on the SVS Strategic Board of Directors. His service to the SVS has been recognized through selection as one of the Society’s Distinguished Fellows.
