William P. Shutze, MD, is board-certified in general surgery, surgical critical care, and vascular surgery. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, and completed his general surgery residency at University of Alabama (UAB) Hospital, Birmingham, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident. He then completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, TX in 1991.
Dr Shutze joined the medical and teaching staff at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas in 1991 and served as Program Director of its Vascular Fellowship Program from 2013-2105. He holds an academic appointment as Associate Professor of Surgery at Texas A&M College of Medicine and is the co-director of the Aortic Program at The Heart Hospital Plano.
An active researcher, Dr Shutze has participated in more than 25 clinical trials. He has authored or co-authored almost 100 articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals and he has presented at more than 90 regional and national medical conferences.
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr Shutze is also a member of the VESS, the International Society for Vascular Surgery, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Surgical Society, and the SAVS. He is a distinguished fellow of the SVS and has chaired the SVS Community Practice Committe, the Clinical Practice Council and served on the Strategic Board of Directors, the Executive Board and the SVS Foundation Board of Directors.
