Dr. Marc A. Passman is a professor of surgery and currently is vice chair for clinical research and the director of the UAB Vein Program and UAB Vein Center. Dr. Passman is a board-certified specialist in vascular surgery, practicing the full scope of vascular and endovascular surgery.
A native of Hartford, Conn., Dr. Passman received his undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine, in 1987 and medical degree at the University of Vermont, Burlington, Vt. in 1991. He completed his general surgery residency at Oregon Health Sciences University 1997, and vascular fellowship at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 1999. Dr. Passman was on faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn., as an assistant professor of surgery from 1999 to 2006. He joined the faculty at UAB in 2006 as an associate professor, rising to the rank of professor in 2011.
Dr. Passman is a nationally recognized leader in vascular disease. Dr. Passman is past president of the Vascular & Endovascular Surgery Society and the American Venous Forum, and has current leadership roles in the Society for Vascular Surgery. Dr. Passman is on the editorial board for Journal of Vascular Surgery and Annals of Vascular Surgery, and participates as a peer-reviewer for several other journals. Dr. Passman has participated in vascular surgery education at the national level and has mentored numerous fellows, residents, medical students, and undergraduates.
