Dr. Shuja obtained his medical education from Aga Khan University, Pakistan. He joined the research laboratory of Dr. Hasan Alam at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston studying the role of therapeutic hypothermia in resuscitation, as well as helped develop freeze dried plasma for use in combat victims. He then joined MGH as a resident in General Surgery, where he was awarded the Best Resident Teacher Award by Harvard Medical School. In 2014, he joined Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), Boston as a fellow in Vascular Surgery which he finished in 2016. His interest in complex vascular surgical procedures took him to Nuremberg, Germany where he participated in an Advanced Complex Endovascular Aortic Program under the mentorship of Professor Eric Verhoeven.
Dr. Shuja joined the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Mayo Clinic, Rochester in February, 2017. He practices the whole wide spectrum of vascular surgery, including aortic pathologies such as aneurysms and dissections, cerebrovascular diseases, and peripheral arterial diseases such as critical limb ischemia and mesenteric ischemia. He is interested in developing pathways for challenging conditions, centered on multi-disciplinary care and team work. His research interests involve outcome research, involving large clinical databases.
