Medical Student, ICTR-Shapiro Research Fellow
University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health
Stoughton, Wisconsin
My name is Annalise and I am a rising fourth year medical student at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. I am currently a Yearlong ICTR-Shapiro Research Fellow, mentored by Dr. Jon Matsumura (who I have had the great honor of working with for 8 years!) and will re-join the MD curriculum in July to apply OB/GYN in the 2024 Match. I am a first-generation college graduate from UW-Madison in 2018 with majors in biology and Spanish, and a certificate in global health. In undergrad, I studied social determinants of adolescent pregnancy in Argentina, and I served AmeriCorps for one year between college and medical school, where I provided education and resource navigation for pregnant Medicaid patients at an FQHC in a predominantly Latinx Milwaukee neighborhood. As a medical student, I am a member of the UWSMPH Health Equity Activation Team, co-leader/co-founder of the First Gen Low Income (FLI) student organization, LMSA-PALMA senior mentor, co-chair for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination Task Force, and TA for "Race in American Ob/Gyn." I serve on the Wisconsin Medical Society-Student Section's Reproductie Health Justice Committee, and have recently lead-authored policy advocating for full-scope reproductive health training for medical students and residents, and co-authored policy for addressing Wisconsin's Black maternal mortality crisis. I also have a strong interest in climate justice, and was a co-leader for Students for Sustainable Healthcare, and was a member of the Anti-Racism Committee and Advocacy Committee of the Wisconsin Health Professionals for Climate Action.
